IC:
Character name: Chie Yamamoto
Fandom: Sakana
Timeline: Up to Chapter 9 - Chie has just been on an 'interest meeting' with Jiro Sakana and agreed to be his girlfriend.
How would they use their abilities?: To train dogs for companionship, of course!~
Appearance: Chie is an average height, curvy young Japanese girl, with a friendly round face and slightly large nose. She wears practical but cute clothing, happy in both skirts and jeans, and has long wavy dark hair that she usually wears up in a bun, or a ponytail if she's feeling business-like. When working at the fish market she wears it in a blue patterned fish bandana. Although she appears cheerful and unintimidating, Chie's eyes can be highly expressive, and her face has a tendency to light up when she's excited.
Background/Personality: As a child, Chie was nothing short of malicious, and particularly enjoyed picking on a certain innocent male classmate. This behaviour may have been exacerbated by the fact that her elder sister was a rather timid little girl (a trait she quickly grew out of) and likely did little to prevent Chie's bullying. Chie's victimisation of Jiro Sakana came to an abrupt end when the boy's parents were killed in a car crash, and he was transferred to a different school. Not knowing anything about the tragedy at the time, Chie assumed he'd moved on account of her bullying and has blamed herself ever since. Only recently has she found out the truth from Jiro.
Her relationship with Jiro has been somewhat convoluted; despite working across Tsukiji Fish Market from one another for years, the two never struck up a conversation due to Jiro's inability to talk to girls. Chie, for her part, recognised Jiro immediately as her...childhood 'friend' (or victim, however you want to look at it) and assumed that he too recognised her. It was only after she agreed to meet him for coffee that things got a little untidy, to say the least. After Jiro confessed how nervous he felt, Chie took this as a sign that she had permanently traumatised him, and burst into tears, apologising for her behaviour in preschool. Only then did Jiro realise who she really was!
Although many other people would be somewhat daunted by the day's events (discussing childhood traumas, revealing past secrets, being stalked and crushed by a giant donut etc. etc...) Chie, true to her nature, remained impressively unfazed. Despite her mischievous past, she has mellowed out a great deal and is now a friendly, confident young lady. She is mature and sensible enough to hold two jobs, and has a tendency to take things in her stride; she is not daunted easily. Chie divides her time between running the cash register at Matsumoto's fish stall in Tsukiji, and training enormous German Shepherd dogs for...companionship...Her star pupil and favourite dog is a formidable creature named Taicho. Not much else is known about her life, but it can be said that she is a warm, friendly personality with a pretty strong conscience.
Chie also has an older sister, Moriko, with whom she is apparently very close. In their childhood days Mori was very much the passive sibling, allowing Chie to run rampant unchecked. However, nowadays it is Mori that seems to need a firmer hand, particularly with her recent break-up. Chie cares deeply for her sister, and is doing her best to support her through these tough times. That isn't to say she is blinded by sisterly love; Chie is very much aware of Moriko's temper, and does her best to help keep it in check.
Have you read up on how the game works?: Yes, the characters have been rescued from the destruction of earth and are placed aboard a space ship. They can communicate using the guide, which runs on a plug-in called FlamingFerret. Money can be earned through jobs, missions etc.
1st person sample: [The device flickers into life, revealing Chie holding it at arm's length and scrutinising it somewhat critically. Her hair is done up in a blue bandana. She frowns and taps the screen]
Hello? Am I supposed to talk into this?
[She glances over her shoulder as though expecting a helpful tour guide to materialize from nowhere. Doubtfully, she turns back to the screen]
Um…I don’t really understand how but…I think…They said I’m in space? This is probably some kind of joke, but...
[Shrugging, she rubs the back of her neck]
If anyone’s there, I’m still pretty confused, and I’d appreciate…I don’t know…a bit more explanation? Where is everyone? I have a sister, Mori…Please, tell me if you find her…
[She glances at her watch]
I wonder if Matsumoto's around...[She heaves a sigh] I guess I'm not going to be on time for work today.
[She taps the screen once more]
Mori? Mori, if you're there, it's me, Chie. I don't really know what's going on but I'm coming to find you, okay? It sounds like someone's playing some kind of joke, but please try not to get too angry. And keep an eye out for Jiro, please? [For the first time, she looks a little concerned, biting her lip anxiously.] Just...make sure he's okay, for me, if you find him.
[She leans closer, as though suddenly reminded of something.] Oh! And, erm...try...try and stay away from Jiro's brother, okay? Okay, I'll see you soon...I hope...
3rd person sample: (more on the Christmas party thread here)
"Ah...excuse me, please...sorry...excuse me..." Chie sighed, and let her hand flop down to her side. Despite the seemingly endless stream of people - if many of them could be called that - that bustled past, not one of them seemed willing to stop and help. Feeling slightly frustrated, she brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes and marched off down the corridor, determined to find answers one way or another. Clutched in her other hand was the bizarre pocket guide she'd found herself holding, and every now and then she glanced down at the reassuring 'DON'T PANIC' emblazoned across the cover. Not that she was about to. As she gazed around the strange-looking building (if that's what it was), Chie felt nothing short of wonder. It was like nowhere she'd ever seen in Japan, or anywhere else, and that was just the architecture. The people...'people'...that populated it were nothing short of alien. At first she'd wondered if she was in some sort of bizarre convention, and these were all normal humans in elaborate costume, but by now she was gradually coming to the conclusion that some of these were definitely not costume. Not holograms either, she thought, wincing as one bashed rudely into her and scurried away.
She was reassured to see several ordinary-looking humans among the mismatched crowd, although none of them seemed particularly keen to stop and help. Nowhere did she see Mori, or Jiro, or anyone she recognised at all. A fleeting thought of Taicho crossed her mind, and then the first gnawings of doubt. If - if the world really was...she swallowed...gone then - her dogs...A shiver ran down her spine. Contemplating the loss of her dogs was barely manageable enough. Contemplating the loss of her sister...No. Chie shook her head and continued resolutely forward. Mori was here somewhere. She'd find her.
